Malaga Bike Race

V Subida a la Reina (Climb to the Queens Fountain)

On Sunday 11th November 2018 I competed in the “Subida a Fuente de la Reina” with a few of my triathlon team mates in Malaga. The race is a 15k hill climb from the Roseleda Football Stadium (the home of Malaga CF) in the centre of Malaga up to the Queens fountain in the Montes de Malaga. In total the route climbs 851 metres along a well surfaced mountain road. The road was closed to traffic until the last cyclist crossed the finish line. You can rent a bike malaga from us to participate in this race.

The race started controlled, behind a number of police motorbikes through the narrow streets of Malaga. After a couple of kilometres the police pulled away and the race started. On the day the day there was over 300 cyclists in the race and because of the narrow Malaga streets we were spread out over a kilometre before the race had started. As a result I didn’t realise the race had started until I hit the 5k mark! It was a fantastic experience, great atmosphere on a tough hill climb.  My finish time was just over 52 minutes, which positioned me in the middle of the race finishers.  As a bonus after the race all competitors were given a celebratory beer or soft drink.  The race itself was well supported, by locals and tourists with lots of volunteers & marshals. The views from the Fuente over Malaga are spectacular. At only 15 euros it is definitely one for the diary
