After years of cycling in Spain both for pleasure and competing in numerous Sprint, Olympic & Half Distance Triathlons , Steve Twiselton set up cyclemalaga.
Cycling has grown hugely in popularity with more than two million people across the UK now cycling at least once a week, an all-time high according to British Cycling, the sport’s governing body.
The reason for this can be pin pointed back to a number of reasons.
For example, the effect of the 2007 Tour de France starting in London, the eight gold medals won by the GB cycling team at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2012 Olympics in London, and of course Bradley Wiggins and then Chris Froome, winning the Tour de France. Not to forget the government’s Cycle to Work scheme (introduced back in 1999 and which allows people to buy a bike tax-free). And the underlying increased focus on health and fitness, and concerns about congestion. All these reasons means there are more people enjoying the benefits of cycling than ever before.
Many of these cyclists also continue to enjoy their sport abroad choosing to see there chosen holiday destination by bike. More and more cyclists are choosing to leave their bikes at home and rent a bike while away. Now this is definitely a good option, given that the quality of the bikes on offer has improved and rental prices are very affordable as cyclemalaga can prove. Not only does it save you the hassle of bringing your own bike, but it also gives you an opportunity to test a new bike or groupset. It doesn’t make sense economically too, when you consider the cost of transportation on the plane, to and from your accommodation, plus insurance of course. Ryanair currently charge €60.00 each way to transport bikes.
